Background

Founded in 1986, German International School New York (GISNY) is a top choice for those looking to develop or maintain their children's German-language skills. GISNY has a dual-diploma programme, allowing students to graduate with both the German International Abitur and the American High School Diploma. Students are then eligible to apply to universities in Germany and the USA.

Class sizes are kept small and therefore places are limited. Applications can be made throughout the year, but children may be placed on a waiting list.

There is a German-language ability requirement for some grades. Applicants for Grades 1 must have a basic understanding of German, while those in Grades 2 to 12 must demonstrate a German proficiency level appropriate for their grade. There is no German requirement for Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten students.
