Hello everyone My husband and myself would like to relocate with our children (10 year old twins, 11 this year) and a son who will be 8 this year. My husband has 26 years experience as a floor layer. He lays domestic and commercial. He also has a class 2 hgv licence, over 20 years driving experience. I am a support worker of 5 years working with adults with autism, LD and challenging behaviour. I have my nvq level 2 in health and social care, I am currently working towards my qcf level 3 in health and social care. I am also working towards a certificate of higher education in adult social care. What would be the probability of finding work and where do I start? Regards Claire

Hi there, The job market is competitive here, but that can be outweighed by the lifestyle you get. You will find jobs in Auckland or any big city but only have a small income. Minimum wage is normal as is 17$ per hour. Your husband, unless beginning his own business, will be able to get work but maybe 18-22$ per hour would be normal. Living costs in Auckland are exorbitant. I would find something before moving over here.

Hi Claire

For a overview of the working climate, see Working in New Zealand. The page features information about how to find a job.

Kind regards,
