Hi, we are moving to Pretoria and I have found some great public primary schools, but am having trouble getting a response from them. Can anyone help me with my research. I'm just trying to weigh up the pros and cons of public vs private but cannot find any information as to whether foreign (expat) children are charged the same as residents of South Africa. If anyone can help with this, I'd really appreciate it!

Public primary schools vary greatly in quality.
Former "model C" schools are usually the best public schools they tend to have active governing bodies and actively seek external funding in addition to what they receive from the state.
Governing bodies can in theory have a separate fees policy for non-residents, but not always. Though it is quite common for universities to do this.
Public schools that subsist wholly on state funding should be avoided.
There is an increase in new private schools that are roughly equivalent to "model C" schools, but these new schools do not have the financial buffer that older (public and private schools) have established over the decades.
