The US Department of State and the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade have advised travellers to be cautious but have not advised against going to Thailand.
While the situation is still fairly volatile, the country's interim military rulers have lifted the curfew (although it could be reinstated).
As long as you keep up to date with current events, and stay out of the far south, you should be safe in Thailand.
The NCOP, who is currently in charge, has emphasised that all existing diplomatic relations remain the same, meaning that you should still be able to apply for a visa under the usual processes.
