Taiwan has a working holiday arrangement. People between the ages of 18 to 35 from the following 15 countries may apply: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Japan, Korea, New Zealand, Poland, Slovakia, and the United Kingdom. This allows employment for up to six months.
For stays in Taiwan exceeding six months, a work visa is needed. It is necessary to have before applying for residency. From what I have read, teaching online for a company based outside of Taiwan, you do not need a work permit if you are teaching for less than six months. For more information, you can see our page on work permits for Taiwan.
Usually, the company you work for will deal with the residency applications. Is your teaching job based for an online Taiwanese company?
Do I need a work permit to work online as an English teacher in Taiwan during my six-month stay?
