What is Qatar like for girls of 19 & 20 and for a young, active Labrador Retriever? Thank you

Hi James,

I think it'll be normal for two girls of that age to experience some level of culture shock when moving to Qatar, especially if you haven't lived in the Middle East before.

However, Qatar is more liberal than neighbouring Saudi Arabia. So don't get put off by common stereo types. In Qatar women are allowed to drive and are educated to the highest level. Although Western women won't be expected to wear the traditional abaya, they should still make the effort to dress modestly.

I suggest taking a look at our Women in Qatar page and Culture Shock in Qatar page for more detailed information on issues that effect new arrivals to the country.

With regards to your dog, you might have difficulty taking him outside during the day as tempretures are really high in Qatar. However, if you live in a housing compound, you'll find that there are properties that come with a sizeable garden which will allow the dog to move around freely and get some exercise.

I think you'll also find the interviews on our Expat Experiences in Qatar provide some really useful insights from those who have already made the move to Qatar.

I hope you find this information useful and do let me know if you have any further questions.
