Dear Sir/Madam I came to Oman in order to marry an omani man. He has all the necessary documents forthe marriage, but until now wecouldn't take the step to get married because of one reason: I have a 7-year-old boy from an earlier marriage, and although I have sole parental responsabily for him, we were told that he could not get a residency permit. The government would give a family residency to me (as the wife of an omani citizen) but not to my son. I would like to know if this information is true/final and if somebody knows similar cases. I'm utterly destroyed ... Thanks
I am sorry to hear about your situation and you have my sympathy.
After having done some research, I would recommend that you speak to an Omani immigration consultant with knowledge of Sharia law in the country, especially since this is a fairly unique situation, at least as far as Oman is concerned.
I would also have a look at what the Ministry of Social Development has to say. Although there is no formal concept of adoption in Islamic law, there are several alternatives I have come across.
It does seem that many couples have to persist for months before anything happens as it is, and some people have been refused before their application was finally accepted. So, at the very least, there is some hope.
I really do wish you the best of luck with this.
Best,
Xavier
