Comparing the most suitable international school for 3 irish boys aged 15,13 and 12. My husband is moving to Muscat .I am an experienced Secondary school Teacher but wish to know the problems that my boys will encounter in the education curriculum only They're expats so socialisation is not a problem

Hi aingeal, the best would be to contact your school of choice directly to chat to them about your concerns regarding your son's adjustment to the curriculum. This is something they deal with regularly as there are children coming from various countries and curricula. Some schools may even offer some foundation courses to help children adjust to the new work, or have a guidance councillor who will assist with the transition.

Hi aingeal, the majority of expats send their children to international schools in Oman and there are a number of good schools to choose from - it all depends on what curriculum you'd like your children to follow. The majority of international schools in Muscat follow the British or American curricula, with some also offering the International Baccalaureate Programme. As you have mentioned, socialisation may not be a problem, but there will always be adjustments to be made when living in a new country and starting a new school. In terms of integration, if going to a school that follows the curriculum that they are currently following, then there should not be any problems with curriculum for your boys.

Thanks Catherine for your information but the difference between Jenny's kids and mine is that they were familiarised with THE CURRICULUM before coming to Oman.my kids follow the Irish Education curriculum - very different. My eldest has completed the 1st state exam- Junior Certificate and I worry on whether he might find any new curriculum difficult and wonder if he could start at the preparation for A levels.
