Hi there,
Is there anyone in Nairobi that could help me. I am moving to Nairobi for 3 months to do a volunteer assignment. I am wondering what the best way to get around the city would be. I think it will be too expensive for me to buy a car for myself. What are my other public transport options? Is public transport safe in Nairobi? Its just that I've heard some stories.

The safest and most convinient way to get around Nairobi is to get a car and hire a local driver to take you around. Driving is no easy task in Nairobi so having someone who can anticipate local driving behaviour will be an asset.
As you are there for a relativley short period of time, it makes sense to simply hire a car rather than going to the hassle of buying one. Plus, cars in Nairobi are pretty pricey.
I'd advise you to use a reputable international car hire company, rather than the local companies, which do offer more competative prices but offer less support should there be a problem with the car.
There are plenty of public transport options in Nairobi such as the train network, buses and shared minibuses. However, these modes of transport are generally used by locals rather than expats. Journeys can be long and the vehicles are not always safe.
Another option for you would be to use private taxis.

Good luck.
