Hi, I am contemplating to move to Adelaide. My wife is getting into her University program and I would be moving under spouse VISA. I would like to know , if any one can help me please (a) How is the job market there .. I am about 49 now with over 26 years of experience in Indian market mostly in senior leadership / sr management level as Vice President / Director .. Unit Head etc. I am a sales / marketing & business development professional currently engaged also in consultancy. (b)how long it may take a decent paying job considering the fact that I have to compromise .. and what could be the income potential .. Regards N N Datta

Hi,Datta it's wouldn't be easy to get a job in any part of Australia specially for outsiders with non English tongue. Candidates with Australian credentials get preference. It's been heard from different sources that job chances are better if you have experience of working in multinationals (but not too many people have that). For others things are not impossible but bit tough. I have been knocking the doors of several companies from India through mail in web development sector for past one year.Best of luck. While there are lots of opportunities for expats living in Australia and Australian's usually give preference to the best candidate for the job rather than making a decision based on where someone is from, the fact is that unemployment is high in Adelaide. Therefore job opportunities are more limited than those in other Australian cities like Sydney and Melbourne. Furthermore, salaries are lower here than in the rest of Australia

However, as locals leave Adelaide for other cities in Australia, many of the companies operating in Adelaide are looking for skilled expat workers.

You success will depend on your personal experience as well as how good you are at networking.
