Hello.... I've heard that passport theft is seriously on the rise in Spain.... How can I avoid falling victim to it, and what should I do if it happens to me?!

Passport theft is becoming more common in Spain, since demand from potential illegal immigrants from Africa has fuelled the creation of a lucrative passport black-market. If your passport is stolen you should immediately report it to the local embassy and have the passport reissued.
Just remember that very few people need to see your passport, so don’t show it to anyone unless they are employed in an official government capacity. And keep it somewhere safe! If your hotel/backpackers has a safe, make use of it!
