Hi Abhishek, the question of salary and living a good life in Oman all depends on your particular lifestyle and personal expenses. Have a look at our Cost of Living in Oman page for a breakdown of what you can expect to pay for the basics in the country.
Hi Catherine, I applied for a position in Oman where the salary offered is 1175 omr per month. Is this enough for a single person to live on and have some spare to put away? I can live quite spartan! Regards Louis (employer has no other perks such as housing etc)
Hi Louis, whether the salary offered to you is good enough to maintain a good life all depends on what your lifestyle is like. It also depends on what field you will be working in and whether the salary is market related. I suggest looking at our article on A Comparison of Expat Salaries in the Middle East, which should give you a general idea of what you should be earning in Oman. Also, take a look at our Cost of Living in Oman page to see how far your salary would go.

Firstly, with regards to the question on salaries, just be aware that these vary from country to country in the Middle East. I am not sure how much a lecturer would earn.
If you are lecturing in quite a niche field, you can expect to be paid quite well, especially in places like Dubai where there has been a growth in the number of higher education institutions. When negotiating your salary package, you should also see if the company offers any additional benefits like health insurance, accomodation allowances, etc.
Engineers are also sought after in the Gulf states. On average, a chief engineer can expect to be paid USD 10,834 per month but again, some countries will offer you more.
For expats looking to take up a job offer in the Middle East, I would recommend you read this article - A Comaprison of Expat Salaries in the Middle East. It will give you a good overview of what to expect in salary negotiations.
With regards to the question of safety for Hindus in Oman - Oman is one of the safest and most stable countries in the Middle East. While it is an islamic country and you might have difficulty practicing your religion, there haven't been any recent reports on any hostility towards Hindus or other expats. I think you'll actually find the Oman is quite a friendly country and you will fit in well with the country's large expat population.
I ahve been offered 350 riyals salary,100 riyals housing allowance and 50 riyals as conveyance allowance,Is this a good offer to work in oman??.............. Kindly reply
Single living OMR 500.00 is moderate, if you are ok to share accommodation, which cost around OMR 100-150. For Family with two kids and schooling, minimum need OMR 750.000, from this OMR 250-300 will go for two bed flat in normal town.
My experience Sultanate of Oman is very good place to live, job chances are here for professional and experienced. OMR 400.00 (US$ 1000.00) is ok for single living, for family an extra cost for separate accommodation/flat OMR 150-250 depends on area.

hi my name is shol how much is it possible for me to earn in a month in oman if I am doing unskilled labour job pls reply. for God sake any experienced adviser
Hi All, I have read through the blog and found that many have queries for salary scale between 300-500 OMR (Omani Riyal).
If you are single 300 OMR is the very basic for a junior level staff (Yes there are people who earn below that). With the 300 you earn you can make both ends meet with hardly any savings, if you are planning to stay in Muscat. You can climb up the ladder from there.
If you are married, you will need atleast 600 OMR (as per the new visa policy) to get a family status, which is a very reasonable policy by the government as you need that money to survive and save a little.
I've been in UAE, Kuwait and Qatar previously and I have to say the place is good in terms of living cost. Its living cost is at the lower end when you compare with the other GCC countries.
Good Luck.

Oman in the safest country for any religion, so not a question on safety of Hindu caste people. People of Oman are best among GCC, Local omani's give full respect to expats and specially trust Hindus a lot.
