I have a tentative offer for a job as an instructional designer in Udaipur, Rajasthan. I don't know what perks, if any, are included at this point, but the recruiter said I should expect to make 1/10th to 1/12th of the salary I would be paid for this type of work in the US. Since I would make between $50k and $70k in the US for this work, he is essentially telling me I would only make the equivalent of $5k to $7k USD doing the same work in Udaipur. At the high end, this would equal about 375,000 rupees.
Does this sound accurate, in terms of his estimation of my salary needs in Udaipur? Can I make a comfortable living (quasi-US-style) for a salary that low? Or does it sound like he's trying to short-change me? Keep in mind that I have a Master's degree and roughly 25 years of experience in Instructional Design/e-learning/adult education.

The salary the company has offered you does seem to be pretty decent. However, whether it is enough for you to survive and have a comfortable life will depend on the lifestyle you are used to.
I would advise you to have a look at the Expat Arrival's Cost of Living in India page to get an overview of the relative expenses you can expect.
I hope this helps you in your decision.
Good luck !
