Anyone got any experience of the Chile healthcare system? We are moving there in January, but my wife is six month pregnant and she need to find a doctor and hospital as soon as we arrive so that she can make arrangements for the baby. Obviously I'm a bit concerned about the healtchare system there... Is it any good and how does health insurance work in Chile?

Hi Smith, Chile has a pretty good healthcare system and a well-organised public health insurance system. If you're a resident in Chile and paying Chilean taxes you should have access to the public healthcare sytem - which is comprised of a 7 perent compulsory deduction off all residents and local's salaries. If you're in Santiago, you will find a number of good public and private healthcare facilities. Just note - hospitals are government institutions, while clinics are private institutions. I sugest you take a look at our Healthcare in Chile page for further information about Chile's healthcare system.
