Hello, I basically the same question that everyone ask and I am single and I am being offered 24K a year before tax. Is it in line with the cost of living of London or it's surrounding? Also, I will have to fork out the cost of moving in some place and from the looks I may either have to shared an apartment or house with someone. Something I am not looking forward to.

Hi there - 24k is a low salary, but you can live off this as a young person in London without children. This is around the same salary as you'd expect as a newly qualified teacher or nurse. Accommodation will be by far your biggest monthly cost, other cost are actually quite reasonable in London, unless you're going out a lot. Groceries are very good value. As you say, many young people share an apartment or house - have a look at spareroom.co.uk. Note that a nice one bedroom flat in a good area will cost around £350 per week and even higher in the most expensive areas like Kensington...
