Dear members, I am making some inquiries regarding moving to Oman. I have been approached about working there but I wanted to get an idea of what package to be expecting and an idea of expenses in Oman. I have 3 children, aged 14, 10 and 5 and I would assume that schooling would be a considerable expense. Also what is the cost of accommodation? Are there compounds with villas and do these come with facilities? What would be considered to be a good all in package? 5,000 Omani Riyal? Thanks for your help in advance. Housing is not 1800 rials, average is about 800-1000 rials a month. We live in very nice vill in Al Ansab for 700 rials. Get the company to at least offer $1000 or more. School should be covered completely by company. ABA, British School, American Int. school, preferably. Put in apps at all schools ahead of time, they will try to accommodate you. If not start at another school and transfer later. You need a raise in your normal salary, housing covered, school covered, insurance and maybe even car allowance. If not, stay put, its not worth it. Hi, we have just moved back to Oman and the schooling is very expensive! Make sure your company covers the costs as opposed to an allowance. Rental you will need about 1800 rials a month. You probably want to live in Madinat Qaboos as with kids you spend a lot of time to and fro, have you secured school places yet? There is a long waiting list for the schools. Bear in mind that land lords will quite often ask for one years rental or two six month cheques in advance, make sure your company is covering that! You may also want to check if they will sponsor a maid, some companies won't. There are some compounds but most people live in stand alone villas. There are hotels you can take a family membership for access to pool gym etc. It's great fun here but quite basic in some ways, supermarkets are pretty grim! Healthcare is ok, make sure you have good insurance through your company. Hope this helps! Faye
