I'm going to visit Riyadh on business, and need some advice about abayas. I know I need to arrive with one in my hand luggage, but I could do with some help on details. I've found several styles online, incuding kimono, pull on, button up, zipper and popper, and would appreciate women's views on the advantages of each. If I go shopping for one while I'm there will I be able to try it on in the shop, and get it taken up if need be (quite likely as I'm short) Some of my meetings will be women only, in a women only school. In that environment will I be expected to keep the abaya on or take it off? any other advice also appreciated. Thanks

Hey CarrieB,

Yes, you'll certainly need to make a few adjustments to life in Saudi Arabia as a women.

We've got a whole page dedicated to the topic which will be useful reading : Women in Saudi Arabia

Y
es it is best to purchase an abaya before you get to Riyadh but you'll definatley have more choice once you are there. I'm sure the shops are used to alteration requests.

Have all your other needs been taken care off in Riyadh ... things like transport and accommodation?
