I've been studying abroad in Rome for the last six months and have decided to extend my stay and take some additional classes over the summer in Florence. Where is the best place to live for a young, single person looking to meet people and enjoy all the city has to offer?

As a young, international university student you'll most certainly want to live in the Centro Storico or historic centre. This area of Florence stretches just below the Piazza della Liberta down and across the Arno River to Porta Romana. It's sectioned off on the East and West sides by main viali, or thoroughfares.

All of the city's most historic monuments and museums will be within walking distance, as well as an assortment of restaurants, cafes and pubs. Do keep in mind that this is also a tourist heartland. Especially during summer, when many Italians escape to the coasts, the piazzas and cobblestone ways will be jam-packed with foreigners taking in the sights and smells of Italy. For a more authentic experience you'd have to live on the periphery, but then, transport in and out of downtown is difficult and irritating.
