My company is giving me an accommodation stipend, but I will need to find somethign suitable and take out a lease myself. Can anyone recommend a good area in Manama with a strong expat community?

There's lots of areas in Bahrain ideal for those looking for a strong expat community.

Juffair is popular with Americans and is close to the US Navy base in the north east of the main island. Most of the accommodation here is in modern apartment blocks, so if you want some green space this might not be the best option.

Alternatively. many expat families live in Budaiya, which is just west of the city centre. Accommodation in this area is made up of compound villas, and the Dilmun Club and the Bahrain Rugy Club are here. Schools in the area also carry a quality reputation, so if you're moving with kids this may be your best bet.

Lastly, Adlyia and the adjoining suburbs of Mahooz and Um Al Hussan are popular options for those who fancy a bit of nightlife. There's lots of restaurants in this area and entertainment options.

Amwaj Island is located 10 minutes from the airport so ideal for people who travel frequently. A man-made island offering flats and villas. Also several restaurants are now here and a Waitrose and Alosra supermarket. Excellent community for walking, riding bikes etc. Not a compound but there is security at the entrance and they also patrol.
