How worrisome is the issue of racism in Russia. As a person of colour would be it ill-advised to move there. Would i be putting myself in serious danger?

Racism in Russia is a concern. If you're black, Asian or Middle Eastern, you CAN expect to be made to feel uncomfortable at some point during your time living in Russia, but it's less than likely that you will be in any danger. Sometimes Russian people will stop and ask black people to pose for photos, as individuals of this race are so incredibly rare in the country. People of Middle Easern descent, on the other hand, are often associated with the areas of Chechnya, and may be treated with animosity.

Their has been a rise of neo-Nazi groups in Russia as of late, and Hitler's Birthday is a date associated with problems, but these extreme kind of sentiments are held by a small majority of people in Russia, not the majority.

As an Asian who lived in Russia for about 6 years and who was assaulted, racially abused, and frequently harassed because of my Asian appearance I will strongly recommend to any people of color to stay away from this racist country. With all my respect cannot agree with Stephanie on her assessment of racism in Russia.

As a white foreigner, I did not encounter problems there. I agree, though with the anonimous remark. I lived in a student residence, and chinese students, having had some bad experiences, organized themselves to go shopping together in large groups. This is according to me the saddest side of living in Russia.
