Hi there everyone, Just a couple of questions for those in the know!! My husband has been offered a job in Milan and all going well we shall be moving there early this septemmber! yey! First question really is where would you recommend that we look for an apartment rent wise? Milan centre is too expensive, so somewhere that is good for schools ( we have a 4yr old and a 2yr old, both boys ) and with a decent commute (less than an hours journey to the city centre)? Second question, is it a better idea to send the boys to a local school or one like Sir James Henderson? What advice in general would you be able to provide us?? Hi Sarah

Take a look at the Education and schools in Italy page for a general introduction. The question of whether to send your kids to a local, private or international school really depends on whether you want an English-medium education or not. The state and private schools in Italy are similar in quality, and state schools are free, including for foreigners. The state school system is widely regarded to be of decent quality.

Hi Sarah. We possibly have the same situation coming up as you did back then. Was just wondering how you found it ? Did you find good accommodation and where ? What area north or south of Milan (hubby's job possibly in south). Also, what school(s) did you decide on ? We not sure whether to go straight into Italian school (with English kids who apparently will pick it up 'real quick' ) or to go with English school ? Thanks for your (now experienced : ) help.

Hey guys, i am in a similar situation... i am moving to Milan with my 10 year old daughter.. my Fiance lives there .. we had many debates on where to send my daughter to school, i thought the easy option is the international schools because there will be english speaking kids, it would be easy for her... but the downs on that is the cost is way to expensive and if my daughter was to go there she will not learn italian.. so i decided to send her to a normal italian school where she will be around italian kids and that way she will learn the language quick... goodluck !
