I've heard you can't get pre-paid cellphone contracts in Taiwan, is that true? How easy is it to get a contract and what are the costs like for overseas calls? Is it better to just use Skype? Thanx.
You certainly can get pre-paid cellphones in Taiwan, although it will be cheaper to get a contract. The documentation you'll need depends on the company, but generally you'll just need your ARC card. If you don't have one (if you're not a resident) then I'd say just use Skype. In fact, with Taiwan's fast and reliable internet, that may be the best/cheapest option anyway.
If you got a sim card, the only thing you need to do is sign up in SPAXTEL, then you can call anywhere you want.(Spaxtel is the international service i am using now)
