Hi, I will be moving alone from India to Nairobi on the last week of June 2013.

My work place will be at Bishops Garden Towers. Would like to know if Parkland/Westlands is the best choice to live in or are there other nicer areas that i can opt for?

I would prefer an apartment rather than an independent house. Also the kind of amount I will be spending on rent?

Other advices n tips also welcome. Please do let me know asap, cuz i need to finalise on a place to live before i get there. Thanks a ton in advance.

Hi Karumbaiah,

Westlands and Parklands are both popular expat areas of Nairobi where residents can easily commute to the CBD from. So you should explore accommodation options in both those areas.

Obviously the cost of accommodation will depend on location and the quality of the property. However, expats should expect to between KES 60,000 and 70,000 for a two-bedroom place in a secure apartment block. One-bedroom places are not much cheaper and harder to find, so there is also the option of sharing with another expat.

For more detailed information check out Expat Arrivals page on Accommodation in Nairobi.

Good luck with the flat hunt.

Hello, I am moving to Nairobi in September and looking to rent a property around Karura forest as will be working on thigiri ridge road. My budget is KES 50,000 and needs to be furnished. Could you recommend a good area? Cheers
