Thanks for the advice on banking. Will probably keep my international account as I'm only going for a year. That said, I'm diabetic and would feel better knowing a bit about healthcare and the hospitals in Qatar.

The healthcare system in Qatar is of a high standard, and you should be fine- there are around five public hospitals in Doha, not to mention private ones, and if you get a state Medical Card once you're settled, the chances are you will pay very little for treatment, if anything.
That said, as with anywhere else, the waiting times at public hospitals can be quite long. If you can afford it, the private hospitals in Qatar are generally quite brilliant.
