Hello everyone
I'm looking to move to Qatar with my husband. It seems like women play a more equal role in society there than in, say, Saudi Arabia, but I'm sure it isn't as equal as what I'm used to. That said, I'm no expert.
In short, as a woman moving to Qatar, what should I expect?
Thanks!
Kate

Women in Qatar certainly do have more rights than in Saudi Arabia and often play an active role in society.
That having been said, there is still a lot for Western expats to adjust to. You won't have to wear an abaya, but you will have to cover your arms, for example.
Hotels are more permissive, and expat compounds are closer to what you may be used to, but some women keep a shawl with them in their car, in case they have to unexpectedly have to go out into public, for instance (yes, women in Qatar are allowed to drive).

Hope this helps,
