I have been researching suitable accommodation for my family as my husband has a new job in AD.

We are currently in the UK.

Is it really true that most landlords will ask for a year's rent upfront!? How can most people manage this? I have been given to expect a monthly rental of around £4,000 (UK Sterling) so would need almost £50k to start us off.

Employer will be paying an accommodation allowance but I presume that is paid monthly....what do people do in these situations?

Best regards

Hi Stephanie,

You are correct , rent in Abu Dhabi is usually paid annually in advance rather than monthly. However, depending on the landlord, you might be able to pay using post-dated cheques, so the rent is deducted each month rather than in one lump sums.

If you opt to do this though, you need to make sure that there is always enough money in your account to cover the rent deduction,as a bounced cheque in Abu Dhabi is a crime.

You should also discuss your situation with your employer, as they may have certain arrangements in place with landlords to assist their expat staff.

For more information check out the Expat Arrivals Accommodation in Abu Dhabi page.

Good luck
