Hi expats,

My husband and I are moving to Calgary at the begiining of 2015 and we are busy starting our search for a home in the city. Can anyone recommend an area that is suitable for famillies ? We would like to be close to other expats and good international schools.

Thanks.

Hi Sally,

There are lots of neighbourhoods to choose from in Calgary and choosing where to live is a big decision. Some recommendations for you are the areas of Haysboro, Fairview and Walden. All of them offer slightly larger living options and also lie in close proximity to some great schools. Obviously, you decision will also be guided by budget.

For more information check out the new Areas and Suburbs of Calgary page.

Sally, NW is a qood and decent area with nice schools and good infrastructure. (Rocky Ridge, Edge Mount Varsity etc...)However brand new communities are being built in deep SW and SE or the city. Almost all the SW, NW SE is good for expats (british or Americans families), if you want to spend good money on the house then these two (NW, SW) areas will get you a good home (around 650 to 800K CAD$). If you are two people and one child, living in DT is also a good option in a very nice high rise apartment of condo...! Public schools everywhere. Int. Schools are expensive but are in every part of the city. winter coming in few months so I am sure you know the weather is harsh...most of the year. all the best. Malik
