Weather in Ukraine

This guide was written prior to Russia's 2022 invasion of Ukraine and is therefore not reflective of the current situation. Any plans to relocate to or visit Ukraine should be put on hold until the situation is stabilised, and all embassy safety directives should be followed.

Ukraine's climate is temperate continental, characterised by plenty of rain and cloudy autumns and winters.

The southern coast has a Mediterranean climate. You can expect regular snowfalls in winter (between October and April) with average temperatures ranging from 17°F (-8°C) to 35°F (2°C). Inland areas are colder than coastal areas.

While winters are long and cold, summers are short and can get quite warm, especially in the south, with average temperatures ranging from 64°F (18°C) to 81°F (27°C). Rainfall occurs in the form of thundershowers and occasional downpours, and is highest in the west and north of the country.
