Destination: Dubai

My son is now in 9th grade (CBSE) and I am shifting to dubai from India (Mumbai) in march, at which point he will be in 10th grade. Given that the local language is a part of curriculum and is mandatory, is there any exception granted to such students who are joining in the last year. Is there any school in Dubai where he can opt for an exception.

I have been working in Malaysia as a teacher since August 2015 with my contract ending in March 2016. I work for an international school. I have just found out that I do not have a work visa but I have been paying tax at 25% since August. Is this normal for Malaysia or illegal?

My husband has a job offer in Norway and now we are waiting for our visas. Our 17 years old going to be 18 years old in April just finished his Grade 12 in Western Australia and would like to study culinary arts. Please advise on any school or academy that teach in English language. We’ve found out online Kulinarisk Akademi is one of the good cooking school, base in Oslo. The website is in Norwegian language. I found their link in facebook and sent messages but was informed that it’s not a school but just giving courses to those who would like to improve their cooking skills.

Reference number for South Africa Permanent Resident Permit?

Destination: South Africa

Hi everyone, Did anyone in this forum ever applied for Permanent Resident Permit (PRP) at the South African High Commission? If so, do they issue a reference number to trace the outcome of the permit? I am asking because I applied for it from my home country in Lesotho and they could not give me a reference for the application. They said they cannot give me the reference number since the decision is made in Pretoria not from the embassy.

Are my expectations on saving in Abuja realistic?

Expert Info

Destination: Nigeria
Dear expats, I've been offered a job in Abuja for which the yearly net income would be 80k usd, plus housing at a fancy apartment. A car would be included as well. That translates grossly into 6666 USD per month. I am single, don't have any kids, and I was wondering if I could save nearly 4k USD every month with living on that salary, given the fact that I would do all my best to save money. I came to this forum as a last resort to find out about this. I've already looked at the figures on basic supplies and food, and it seems to me that my guess is right.

Apart from a lot of questions arpund terms, expat package and duration, I'm keen about your experience and advice about a good location to live, taking in account daily commuting into Port Klang, and 3 children (6/11/13) to go to a good school. Also my wife would like to take a job , probably after a few months only. Thank you in advance for your kind feedback, Jürgen

Hi I moved to California from the UK in the summer with work. They used a temporary SSN number in order to pay me my salary while my new one came in the post. However, the job fell through and I returned to the UK before my new SSN arrived. Now my work (which I have left) is asking for my SSN.....which I never received having left. Please can someone tell me how I go about getting it? I've tried calling the SSN help line but the automotive options are not relevant and the call ends with it saying they are very busy. Thanks in advance

Hi, I'm from Australia and my husband, I and our two children (2 and 4) will be moving to Whitefield, Bangalore in a couple of months for work. I'll be in Whitefield this week to look at schools, places to live, etc from 12 - 14 Jan inclusive and was hoping to have coffee with another expat wife (e.g., British, Aussie, Kiwi, American) to see how you've found it, what challenges you've had, any tips, any thoughts re schools, etc. If anyone has an hour or two to spare, it would be much appreciated. I currently have a full time professional job in Germany but I plan to move in with my Girlfriend in the Czech republic. I hope that someone is able to help with the list of questions I have below: 1. Do I need to register with the police in Czech to state I am living here? 2. Will I still continue to pay my income tax and insurances to the German Government? 3. Will I be allowed to keep my German bank account etc? Is there anything else I should consider? Many thanks Chris

American chef looking to move to Germany, will I be able to get a work visa?

Expert Info

Destination: Berlin
Hi, I'm an American chef looking to move to Germany, I've already done research on the process but still have questions. First, I understand that it is difficult to find a job in Germany unless you are trained in an in demand field such as IT or engineering. I did graduate from culinary school with an associates in applied science, a two year vocational degree. Also I have read that you must first have a firm job offer before being granted a work visa. In my case it would be difficult to find a job in a kitchen without first being in Germany.

Hi dear local experts, My husband and I are planning to move to Canada. We both work in advertising and Marketing (He is a copywriter and I am a digital specialist). Looking at the jobs there from jobbank, I saw most of them were electrician or oil and gas industry. if you are an employer or know someone that is willing to employ expats in above fields, I'd be super happy to share with you our portfolios. Apart from advertising and marketing, i love working in forest and with animals, so I am open to these opportunity too.
